Thank you for your interest in Al-Anon/Alateen Family Groups in District 5, Pasco/Hernando/Citrus counties, Florida. Al-Anon Family Groups have one focus: to help families and friends of problem drinkers. Al-Anon has been in existence for more than 50 years as a way to find recovery for those affected by someone else’s drinking. Al-Anon meetings are held in more than 115 countries and there are over 31,000 Al-Anon and Alateen meetings worldwide. According to the 2009 Al-Anon Membership Survey, about 95 percent of Al-Anon members reported that attending Al-Anon Family Group meetings has helped them improve their mental and physical well being.
The Survey also reported that one in three Al-Anon members first came to Al-Anon Family Groups because of a friend or relative who had a drug problem. But after learning more about alcoholism and its effects, nearly nine in ten came to realize that alcohol abuse was also part of the overall problem, which included both alcohol and drugs.
All Al-Anon Meetings are “closed” unless otherwise noted on the meeting schedule, as “open”. Closed Al-Anon meetings are for anyone who has been affected by someone else’s drinking. Open meetings are for members and anyone who would like to learn more about the Al-Anon/Alateen program. Closed Alateen meetings are for young people less than 19 years of age, accompanied by adults who have been certified and gone through a background check by the North Florida Al-Anon Area, as people who are safe to be with children.
