What is Al-Anon and Alateen?
Al-Anon Family Groups provides support to anyone whose life is, or has been, affected by someone else’s drinking. "Al‑Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic." We believe alcoholism affects the whole family, not just the drinker. Al-Anon is a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience in order to solve their common problems. A family disease needs family recovery.
"... we discover that no situation is really hopeless, and that it is possible for us to find contentment, and even happiness, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not."

Al-Anon/Alateen meetings are held every day of the week, at different times and locations, to make it easier for those affected by someone else's drinking to find help. Most meetings last for about one hour and the topics may vary from meeting to meeting. Our program is spiritual by nature; it is NOT religious. Our meetings are often held in churches simply because the rent is inexpensive.

Can Al-Anon and Alateen Help Me?
Although our situations may be different, in Al-Anon, we share as equals because of what we have in common. This commonality is that our lives have been affected in some way by another person’s drinking. Al-Anon and Alateen can help; it is a mutual support group.
In Al-Anon and Alateen we can find understanding and support as we share our common experiences. Some of us are here because a spouse or significant other has struggled, or is struggling with, alcoholism. For others, the problem drinker is a parent, child, or grandchild. Sometimes the actions of a brother, a sister, or some other relative or friend brings us to Al-Anon or Alateen. For some, there may be more than one family member or friend who's drinking bothers us.
Although our relationship to the alcoholic may be different, someone else's drinking has affected each of us. While many newcomers are interested in hearing about situations and relationships that are similar to their own, in time, we come to understand that we can benefit from hearing how the Al-Anon and Alateen principles have worked, and are working, in many different circumstances.
